Evening News, London, 6 May 1937

Hon. E. Cadogan as the Chairman

Sir John Simon, the Home Secretary, told the House of Commons today that the Hon. Edward Cadogan, CBE, former MP would be chairman of the committee to inquire into the administration of corporal punishment. The complete list would be announced as soon as possible. The terms of reference would make it clear that the committee were to examine the various provisions of the law authorising corporal punishment for both adult and juvenile offenders. Mr James Griffiths (Soc. Llanelly): will the Home Secretary consider the desirability of having one or more women members on the committee?
